Box Office Buzz: What does Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm mean for the future of ‘Star Wars’?

By Ashley Bergner
Box Office Buzz

Like many “Star Wars” fans, I’m still trying to process the announcement that Disney has purchased Lucasfilm and now will be at the helm of the “Star Wars” media empire. Maybe it’s just me, but this news took me completely by surprise, and I certainly didn’t see it coming. As a movie buff, I normally monitor movie news websites and magazines fairly closely, but I didn’t hear any rumors about this sale before it happened.

It’s a major purchase — worth about $4 billion dollars — and it’s one Disney plans to quickly put to use: a new “Star Wars” movie, Episode VII, is slated for release in 2015, and other “Star Wars” related projects could soon follow. Overall, I’m feeling pretty positive about the announcement of this sale, and I think Disney has strong potential to successfully continue the “Star Wars” franchise. Continue reading

As the two Presidential Candidates duke it out for the White House, Rita and JC decide to take a geek’s look at debating. The first great debate of 2012 is the ultimate debate in Geekdom – Star Wars vs. Star Trek!

Han Solo or Commander Riker? Darth Vader or the Borg? The Millennium Falcon or the Enterprise? You decide who wins.

Also on this week’s show, we talk Doctor Who. What was behind the Doctor’s Door in the God Complex? What does Matt Smith think of his new companion, we review Doctor Who P.S. and why was John Barrowman hired for Arrow? We also talk The Walking Dead season three premiere (no spoilers), we give you the scoop on SyFy’s new show Defiance and tell you about a new J.R.R. Tolkien book written before Lord of the Rings that will be published for the first time.

Toy Review Star Wars: The Vintage Collection Wicket By Hasbro

For my final entry of Star Wars toys this week on Earth Station One I decided to cover a character that me and my son both really like.

I am a fan of Ewoks.

I get why people don’t like them, I just don’t agree. Ewoks are savage little brutes that were going to eat not only Han Solo and Luke Skywalker, but the mighty Chewbacca as well. And people scoff at the fact that they played such a big role in the Empire’s loss at the Battle of Endor. You know what? That generation of Imperials has been proven to be the most incompetent of any, while the Ewoks were wild savages backed into defending their homes and their way of life from invading aliens. If Randy frigging Quaid can save Earth from the Independence Day aliens, the Ewoks can darn sure do the same from a bunch of poorly trained morons who can’t even shoot straight and think the most efficient weapons of war are a giant dog robot that explodes when it gets tripped and a giant robot chicken that is apparently made of the Star Wars galaxy’s equivalent of tin foil.

Toy Review – Star Wars Vintage Collection: Bespin Cloud Car Pilot By Hasbro

Today’s Earth Station One toy review is of another of my favorite Star Wars characters, though this one is a bit more fringe than Monday’s Ackbar.

Actually, he’s not even really a character, as I think out of all 9,173,826 characters that have received their own biographies courtesy of Star Wars novels, comic books, video games, desktop RPGs, trading cards, pop-up books, young adult novels, short stories, Manga, or cereal boxes the Bespin Cloud Car Pilot is still a bit of an enigma.
