Box Office Buzz: 2013 summer movie preview

As a self-professed film addict and lover of all things fantasy and science fiction, summer tends to be my favorite time of the year at the box office. This is when Hollywood tends to roll out the best of its big-budget films, and this summer, we have quite a selection: from superheroes, to giant fighting robots to the return of the USS Enterprise. Although the reception to the 2013 films released so far has been a bit lukewarm, quite a few hotly-anticipated films will come out in the next few months. Here are some of the most buzzed-about movies this summer:

Earth Station One Episode 31 – Doctor Who Series 7b Preview

The time has almost come and it seems the wait for The Doctor’s return has been longer than ever! Although the 50th anniversary of the franchise doesn’t officially begin until later this year, Steven Moffat and company have already promised that the second half of the season will be one for the ages! Join Mike, Mike, Phantom Troublemaker, along with guests Robert Bowen (assistant director of the Dragon*Con Brit Track) and ESO contributor Mark Bousquet, as they voice their anticipation for the things to come. Clara Oswin, Ice Warriors, and Cybermen! Oh my!

Giants, Jurassic Park and G.I. Joe: Spring movie preview

Is spring becoming the new “summer” at the box office? Although summer has traditionally been the time when Hollywood rolls out its biggest blockbusters and special effects-heavy films, last year’s “The Hunger Games” (released in March) proved major blockbusters can happen earlier in the year.

Hollywood seems to have taken notice, and several movies slated for release this spring have the potential to become hits, even before “Iron Man 3″ officially kicks off the summer movie season on May 3. A spring release date also gives some of these movies a chance to stand out and not get lost in the summer movie shuffle, as several films were overshadowed last summer by all the hype surrounding “The Avengers.”

A HONEY OF A TEAM-UP!

Author and Earth Station One co-host Bobby Nash announced three upcoming New Pulp projects on his website, www.bobbynash.com. The author will be penning a Domino lady novel and a Honey West/Domino Lady novel for Moonstone Books and a Fight Card novel for Fight Card Books.

New Pulp Author Win Scott Eckert announced on his blog that he is writing a new novel for Moonstone Books, Honey West and T.H.E Cat: A GIRL AND HER CAT!

Box Office Buzz: My most anticipated movies of 2013

2012 is going to be a tough year for Hollywood to top. The year’s most anticipated movies — such as “The Hunger Games,” “The Hobbit” and the new Bond movie, “Skyfall” — were, for the most part, relatively well received by fans and also performed quite well at the box office. However, there are quite a few films slated for release in 2013 that look promising, as well, including several sequels to popular franchises.

While there are quite a few films I’m looking forward to this year, here are the top five I’m most excited about:

Although summer is typically thought of as the season for big-budget “tent-pole” blockbusters, there are quite a few potentially big movies coming out this fall and winter. From the release of the first chapter in Peter Jackson’s epic “Hobbit” saga to a new James Bond spy flick to a sweeping big-screen version of the musical “Les Misérables,” the final few months of 2012 will be a busy time at the box office. While it’s tough to predict what films will be successful just based on trailers and short film synopses, here are some of the movies I’m most looking forward to for fall and winter:

With the release date for “The Avengers” now less than a month away, the summer blockbuster season is almost here. There were quite a few good movies I really enjoyed last summer, with “X-Men: First Class” topping my list, and this summer’s slate of films looks very promising, as well. There’s a few films that are almost guaranteed hits (“The Avengers” and “The Dark Knight Rises”), and a few gambles (“The Amazing Spider-Man” and “The Bourne Legacy”).
