Doctor Who Review: The Angels Take Manhattan

The Angels Take Manhattan Review by Mark Bousquet

“THE ANGELS TAKE MANHATTAN” – Series 7, Episode 5, Story 228 – Written by Steven Moffat; Directed by Nick Hurran – It’s time to say goodbye to the Ponds as Amy and Rory take their final adventure inside the TARDIS. We’ve known all along this day was coming, but the question remained about how the deed would be done: death to Amy, death to Rory, sealed off behind an invisible plot wall … yup, yup, and yup. Let’s blame it all on New York. Because At The End, The Ponds Become The Williamses, and Live Out Their Days Away From The Doctor Behind An Invisible Plot Wall In The Big Apple.

Doctor Who to Release Mini-Episode Next Week

Written by: Sam McPherson at TV Rage.

Matt Smith as The Doctor

May 17th, 2012, 1:59 pm

Doctor Who will be returning to television next week. A mini-episode, based upon the winning entry for this year’s Script to Screen competition, will air Thursday in the UK during the CBBC channel series Blue Peter at 5:45pm.

Script to Screen is a competition in which primary school children aged 9 to 11 years old write and submit scripts. The winning entry each year is adapted into a mini-episode. Last year’s episode was the zany outing “Death is the Only Answer,” which saw saw Albert Einstein mysteriously appear in the TARDIS before being transformed into an Ood and back. It wasn’t exactly “Blink,” but it was a fun outing nonetheless.

Thursday’s mini-episode has a bit of a current topic: it’s based around the 2012 Olympics (which are taking place in London). Matt Smith will appear as the Doctor, though it’s unknown who else (if anyone else) will feature into the episode.

Doctor Who has previously featured the Olympic Games in the second series episode “Fear Her,” which saw the Doctor (then played by David Tennant) visit the then-future 2012 Olympic Games and light the Olympic Torch. “Fear Her” is widely considered as one of revived series’ worst episodes. Perhaps these primary schoolers can save the Olympics for the Doctor.

Doctor Who will not return as a series proper until August, when its seventh season premieres. The series will be the final one to feature Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill as the Doctor’s companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams; Gillan and Darvill wrapped filming earlier this week.

You can check out the last mini-episode, “Death is the Only Answer,” here.

Karen Gillan insists Amy’s exit from Doctor Who should be FINAL

Karen Gillan says enough is enough to Amy PondBy Nathalie Caron, Source: Blastr.com

Karen Gillan really doesn’t want to come back to Doctor Who after she’s ended her run as the Eleventh Doctor’s companion, Amy Pond, in the upcoming seventh season. Not even in a cameo—insisting that Amy’s exit from the show should be final.

In an interview with IGN, the Scottish red-head has made it pretty clear that she doesn’t want Amy to come back to the TARDIS. Like EVER. Basically, Gillan wants to make sure she’s not gonna pull a Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) or a Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) Continue reading

BBC America Announces Comic-Con Schedule: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan Set to Appear

Gues "WHO" is going to be at San Diego Comic Con :)By: Kevin Wicks, via BBC America

The Doctor and Amy Pond are heading back West, this time for San Diego Comic-Con. Doctor Who stars Matt Smith and Karen Gillan will make their first-ever appearance at the mega-popular annual event, BBC America has revealed today. On Sunday, July 24, the TARDIS twosome will take part in Doctor Who panel alongside show writer (and Being Human creator) Toby Whithouse and executive producers Piers Wenger and Beth Willis.

And the channel has announced that it will bring out the star and creator of the new haunted apartment thriller, Bedlam, set to premiere on BBC America in October. Lead actor Theo James (Downton Abbey) and show creator David Allison will host a Friday, July 22 screening of the Bedlam premiere followed by a discussion and Q&A. They will also do a signing at BBC America’s booth.

Will this be the last Doctor Who season for Amy Pond?

Is the Doctor going to have new riders on the TARDIS?The departure of companions is nothing new in the grand scheme of Doctor Who history, but in a season already marked by death, could we be seeing a much more grisly end for Amy and Rory? Looks like, no matter what, the signs are building to an end for the Doctor’s favorite married couple.

In addition to the hints that Amy and Rory’s marriage would be put to the test, both Karen Gillan and Arthur Darville seem to be taking on projects whose filming schedule would directly conflict with Doctor Who’s.
