Toy Review – Avengers Hulk By Hasbro

I wasn’t too sure I actually needed another movie Hulk when I first heard about this guy. I already had the 6” scale version from The Incredible Hulk and it seemed okay. I mean, it was just a new head on an old Marvel Legends Hulk body, but it was big and mean and green. Seemed good enough.

When Belligerent Monkey texted me pictures of the one he found I felt more sure I didn’t need it. The elbows looked pretty weird to me and he didn’t seem all that big.

Then I finally found him at retail and he looked awesome. I mean, look at him up there all crouched down because the package is barely big enough to contain his Hulky, green rage.

I pretty much used up all my introductory material for these Avengers figures in the Loki and Hawkeye posts, so I’ll just talk about Hulk a little bit.

Toy Review – Avengers Hawkeye By Hasbro

If you had told me a couple of years ago that I would one day be desperately searching for a Hawkeye figure I would have laughed at you.

If you had told me a couple of years ago that I would one day be desperately searching for a Jeremy Renner figure I would have laughed at you. And then asked who the heck Jeremy Renner is.

What Watchmen’s mistakes taught Whedon about making The Avengers

Joss Wheadon learns from others mistakesBy Marc Bernardin, Source: Blastr.com

As the old saying goes, we’re all standing on the shoulders of giants. You’d be a fool to not learn from the errors of those that came before. So when Joss Whedon got involved with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, he looked at the mistakes of earlier comic book flicks and discovered the secret of the satisfying superhero movie.

During The Avengers press tour, Whedon was asked how one goes about making a good comic book adaptation and his answer is both simple and obvious—and yet eludes so many people who attempt to make them Continue reading

Joss Whedon says that Giles-centric Buffy spinoff ain’t dead yet

Giles spinoff still in the worksBy Matthew Jackson, Source: Blastr.com

There’s been so much Avengers this and Cabin in the Woods that lately that it’s easy to forget how many other potential projects Joss Whedon is still juggling. There’s that cool web series he wants to do with Warren Ellis, the inevitable return of Dr. Horrible , and then there’s that long-dormant Buffy spinoff starring everyone’s favorite badass librarian.

Whedon’s been talking about a spinoff starring Buffy’s mentor and teacher Rupert Giles (played by Anthony Stewart Head) since back in 2001. The project would be called Ripper—a nickname taken from Giles’ early days as an occultist bad boy—and would focus on Giles alone in England, struggling with loneliness and getting into ghostly adventures. Those rumors of a Kree-Skrull war in The Avengers resolved at last

no kruss skree war in the avengers or is there??By Matthew Jackson, Source: Blastr.com

We’ve been squinting at every little scrap of footage we can get our hands on for months, trying to unravel just who’s populating this otherworldly army backing up Loki in The Avengers. There are a number of theories, some more popular than others, and Joss Whedon refuses to say which one (if any) is right. But he’s finally willing at least to call one theory wrong.

Whedon was in Austin over the weekend to roll out his horror flick Cabin in the Woods at the SXSW festival, and he also took the time to field some Avengers questions at a panel event. Among those questions was a call to finally reveal the mysterious rogues that we’ve glimpsed in the trailers chasing a flying Iron Man. True to form, Whedon gave the joke answer first. Joss Whedon explains why Cabin is like ‘a very loving hate letter’

Cabin In the Woods gets some talk up by JossBy Trent Moore, Source: Blastr.com

The Cabin in the Woods isn’t your typical horror flick. The fact that genre-buster Joss Whedon made it should be indication enough, and with the film’s release finally just two months away, the Firefly creator is talking about just how much of a sendup the film will be.

“It’s basically a very loving hate letter,” he told Total Film. “On some level it was completely a lark, me and [director] Drew [Goddard] trying to figure out what the most fun we could have would be. On another level it’s a serious critique of what we love and what we don’t about horror movies.” Continue reading
