Even before the Harry Potter novels were finished, J. K. Rowling was teasing us with the idea of an encyclopedia detailing all the magical ins and outs of the Wizarding World. She always said the book would take a while, but now it seems she could be abandoning the idea entirely. Why?

Last we heard about the encyclopedia, it was one of those things Rowling would get done somewhere down the road, with all the proceeds going to charity. But a new update to the FAQ section on Rowling’s official site seems to put those plans in serious jeopardy.

As far as long-running British pop-culture franchises go, Doctor Who and James Bond are almost twins: The Bond films launched a year before the first Who season. So it sorta makes sense that, for the most recent 007 flick, the director is turning to Who for inspiration.

Director Sam Mendes, who’s calling the shots on Daniel Craig’s third outing as Bond, Skyfall, is a Brit with some experience in geekery—aside from shooting the Oscar-winning American Beauty, he also made the comic adaptation Road to Perdition and was developing Vertigo’s Preacher for a good long while.

Why Damon Lindelof feels ‘the world has not seen the end of Lost’

It’s been almost two year since Lost left us after six hugely successful seasons and one thoroughly divisive ending. Co-creator and co-showrunner Damon Lindelof has moved on to even bigger projects, including Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, but he’s not convinced the show is gone for good, even if he’s not the one who’ll bring it back.

Speaking this week at Variety’s Entertainment & Technology Summit, Lindelof talked about his Twitter account and again made his case for why Prometheus isn’t a prequel to Alien. Then Lost came up, and Lindelof said he’s fairly certain we’re destined to see more of that island someday.

DC’s alien bounty hunter Lobo is finally getting the big-screen greenlight

It’s been a couple of years since we’ve heard any news about Warner Bros.’ attempt to bring intergalactic badass Lobo to the silver screen—and the last update, which involved then-director Guy Ritchie bailing so he could shoot the Sherlock Holmes sequel, wasn’t great. But with a new director, things are picking up steam.

Brad Peyton, who most recently directed Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, just got the nod from producer Joel Silver to rewrite and direct Lobo, based on the character created by Keith Giffen and Roger Slifer back in 1983.
