It’s been a relatively quiet few months since we learned that Ridley Scott was working on a sequel to his seminal 1982 film Blade Runner. But things are heating up now, and we finally have some juicy details on what we can expect when we return to the Replicant-filled world.

For one, Scott revealed in an interview with The Daily Beast that he wants to focus on a female protagonist this go-round. So, whatever happens, this thing will apparently not be built around Harrison Ford’s original, robot-hunting character Rick Deckard.

“Funny enough, I started my first meetings on the Blade Runner sequel last week,” he said. “We have a very good take on it. And we’ll definitely be featuring a female protagonist.”

We also know the film will officially be a sequel to the original, 2019-set Blade Runner, picking up “some years” after Deckard’s tale.

In related news, it’s also been confirmed via Deadline that Scott is in talks to bring original Blade Runner co-writer Hampton Fancher back to work on the sequel—which means the pedigree for this project just got even higher.

Sound off: Do you think Scott can pull off a successful return to the world that solidified him as a sci-fi legend?
