It’s been a couple of years since we’ve heard any news about Warner Bros.’ attempt to bring intergalactic badass Lobo to the silver screen—and the last update, which involved then-director Guy Ritchie bailing so he could shoot the Sherlock Holmes sequel, wasn’t great. But with a new director, things are picking up steam.

Brad Peyton, who most recently directed Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, just got the nod from producer Joel Silver to rewrite and direct Lobo, based on the character created by Keith Giffen and Roger Slifer back in 1983. Continue reading

Seeing as he’s a man of little violence, the Doctor’s trusty sonic screwdriver has been his tool of choice on the BBC series for decades. Now, it seems scientists have actually created a real one.

Researchers at the Dundee University have built a device that can lift and rotate a rubber disc floating in a cylinder of water via ultrasound. According to BBC News, it’s the first time ultrasound waves have been used to turn objects as opposed to push them. Continue reading

DC Comics writer quits, blasts company’s ethics

DC Comics writer Chris Roberson, who has worked on recent projects such as Fables and Superman, has announced via Twitter he is leaving the company. Why? Because he doesn’t like the way DC treats writers.

“Having an afternoon cocktail to celebrate the end of my time at DC,” he wrote. “Aside from the Fairest arc I already committed to doing, iZombie will be the last time I’ll ever write for DC.” Continue reading

‘American Horror Story’ scoop: Season 2′s setting revealed

Back in February, scaremaster Ryan Murphy teased that the second season of American Horror Story would involve a “horror institution” on the East Coast. Now the series’ co-creator has revealed what that institution is — as well as which familiar face will be running the joint.

According to Murphy, the show’s sophomore season “is set on the East Coast at an institution for the criminally insane that is run by Jessica [Lange].” He revealed the news yesterday at a TV Academy panel in North Hollywood. Continue reading
