The Gorillaz’ Pete Candeland To Direct Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride Movie

Mr Toad Coming to the Big Screen w/ a Gorillaz?by Brendon Connelly, source: Bleeding Cool

I took a trip on the Disney theme park attraction Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride once. It involved a lot of keeping my eyes shut and covering my ears. It’s a trip straight to hell, don’t you know.

Very, very creepy.

The ride was based on Disney’s short toon of the same name, adapting a segment of The Wind in the Willows. The next iteration in this chain is to be a full length feature.

There’s no writer on the project at the moment, say Deadline, but Pete Candeland is directing. He’s the man behind a lot of the Gorillaz earlier (some say better) videos, and has a number of cracking commercials under his belt too.

Candeland’s Toad movie is to blend live action and CG. He’s got a lot of experience in this, and has mixed the two up to great effect before. We’re not looking at another Yogi Bear here.

For another metaphysical odyssey in the vein of Toad’s Ride – but considerably less scary – check out this video from the Beatles Rockband game.

I can’t imagine Toad will have such a strong soundtrack. It might, however, be one of the more visually interesting films to come our way in the next few years.

Trivia: Candeland worked as an animator on the 1995 Wind in the Willows toon, and previously toiled under Disney on their Beauty and the Beast sequel, The Enchanted Christmas.
