Nathan Fillion teases ‘Firefly’: Could Netflix bring it back?

It read, “Hmm Hmmmmm HMMMMMM tiny.cc/wnba9.”  That magical link takes you to a blog by comic book writer (and all around cool guy) Marc Bernardin called, “Could Netflix Bring Firefly Back From the Dead?”

Oh my dear and fluffy lord, would that it were true! (And yes, that is from “Serenity,” the film that is essentially the second season of “Firefly.”) Bernardin suggests in his article that Netflix, which has resurrected “Arrested Development” and plans to make more episodes, might be able to do the same for “Firefly.”

As Bernardin states in his blog, Syfy has already looked at the possibilities and decided the budget wouldn’t work. Fox has the rights. The “Arrested Development” deal, however, changes everything.

Bernadin, who is currently writing “Static Shock,” one of DC Comics’ New 52 was kind enough to give us his thoughts on the blog and getting Nathan Fillion’s notice. He said, “Despite some of the comments, I didn’t write the post just to rile the Browncoats, dangle sweet resurrection before their eyes and then snatch it away like, well, a person who snatches things away. I wrote it because I’m a massive fan who also happens to be an entertainment journalist. And when I saw the news that Netflix was both pushing into original programming and bringing back a cult favorite like Arrested Development, my brain went straight to Joss Whedon’s late, lamented ‘Firefly.’”

He continued, “Obviously, it means a lot for someone like Nathan Fillion to even take note of it, let alone spread the word, but I’ve always gotten the impression that no one wants more ‘Firefly’ than him. And as the entertainment landscape continues to shift, more and more things become possible. I only hope this is one of those things.”

  1. I grow weary of seeing Nathan Fillon during brief flips of the channel only to discover he’s not announcing new Firefly episodes. Has anyone even heard of this new show he’s on? “Castle” or something? Sound like it’s going to fail.
