Action Comics #1 sells for record amount!!!By Jeff Spry, Source: Blastr.com

The Holy Grail of comic books is now even holier. A stellar copy of Action Comics #1 from 1938, once owned by Nic Cage, shattered auction records this evening in New York when the smoke cleared and a final bid of $2,161,000 was announced.

Looks like somebody’s holiday just got a whole lot brighter.

Within its fabled pages, Superman was first introduced to the planet, ushering in the Golden Age of superheroes. Stolen from actor Nicolas Cage in 2000, the comic was recovered in April of 2011, found inside a storage locker in the San Fernando Valley by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Art Theft Detail. Fewer than 10 copies of the precious book exist in this condition. The famed specimen is the highest officially graded edition in the census, weighing in at 9.0 Very Fine/Near Mint, inspected by Certified Guaranty Company in New Jersey, the gold-standard of comic book grading services. Is Harrison Ford heading out to space againBy Matthew Jackson, Source: Blastr.com

That Ender’s Game flick is moving right along with casting. Now that Hugo’s Asa Butterfield is definitely on board for the title role, it’s time to turn our attention to the pivotal role of Ender’s mentor, Colonel Hyrum Graff. Among the names in contention is none other than sci-fi god Harrison Ford.

Variety confirmed yesterday that Butterfield is definitely on board for the flick, the story of a young solider in training at the International Fleet, a futuristic battle academy where he goes to war with other trainees. Ender is the trainee, and now producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, Ender author Orson Scott Card and director Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) need to find the trainer. Continue reading

John Barrowman IS Capt. Jack, tackles thief in hotel robbery

John Barrowman IS Captain JackBy Nathalie Caron, Source: Blastr.com

We knew Torchwood’s Captain Jack Harkness was a self-sacrificing, heroic man (he’s immortal in the series, after all) but it also seems that the man portraying him, actor John Barrowman, is as much 100% hero as is his TV counterpart (minus the immortality, of course).

According to Wales Online Barrowman, who was staying at the Scottish city’s Radisson Blu hotel while currently playing the role of Robinson Crusoe in a Glasgow pantomime, and who was returning with his parents from a concert in Newcastle, dragged a fleeing teen to the ground in order to subdue him. George Miller says we may get more Mad Max movies than we thought

A new trilogy for Mad Max??? HmmmBy Matthew Jackson, Source: Blastr.com

After a host of delays, Mad Max creator George Miller is finally set to begin shooting the fourth installment in the series, Fury Road, next April in Namibia. As much as we love the idea of seeing this magnificent wasteland just one last time, we may not have to settle for that. Miller had already mentioned the possibility of a second new Mad Max, and now he says there’s not just two, but three.

In a new profile by the Australian Financial Review, Miller talks about how his Mad Max revival began as a single story, and gradually grew into a new trilogy. Continue reading

Lego Batman” Sequel to Involve the DC Universe

Lego Batman Sequel to have the whole DC Universe in itby Robert Workman, Source: CBR

When “Lego Batman” arrived onto consoles in 2008, the game introduced both kids and comic book fans to a terrific take on the Dark Knight’s legacy, one that replaced the seriousness with joyful co-op action and the opportunity to play as both heroes (Batman, Robin) and villains (The Joker, Riddler and others). The game performed well for Warner Bros. Games and the title’s publisher, so it should come as no surprise that a continuation of the franchise would be in the cards.

According to a report on Bricktuts, “Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes” is in the works for various consoles, and rumored for release sometime next summer. Like the original, the game will give you the opportunity to play as either hero or villain through a pre-set story campaign, either working solo or teaming up with a friend in co-op play. No More Bruce Wayne for Christian BaleBy Nathalie Caron, source: Blastr.com

We all knew it was coming (though we admit we’ve lived in complete denial about it), but for those of us who still hoped that Christian Bale would reconsider and return for further adventures of the caped crusader down the line after the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises, those hopes have just been crushed. Gobble Gobble: The Biggest Box-Office Turkeys of 2011

Green Lantern Movie among the biggest Turkeys of 2011By Kurt Orzeck, Source: Yahoo.com

Turkey Day comes once a year, but in a year that’s been short on big motion-picture success stories, it seems like a fresh bird has landed at the box office every weekend.

In honor of the biggest film-going holiday on the calendar, TheWrap has assembled a list of 2011′s biggest duds so far:

THE RUM DIARY
With Johnny Deppmovies having amassed an astronomical $7.67 billion across the globe over the course of his career, this film stands out like a bad batch of hooch. Grossing just $19.1 million worldwide on a $45 million budget, it was Depp’s least successful film since 1999′s “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” another movie based on the actor’s close friend, the late Hunter S. Thompson. It was perhaps an even greater disappointment for director Bruce Robinson, who battled with alcohol and writer’s block while penning the screenplay, and who hadn’t directed a film since 1992 (“Jennifer 8″).

‘Doctor Who’ moving to autumn, confirms Steven Moffat

Steven Moffat confirms Fall move Doctor WhoBy Paul Millar, Digital Spy.com

Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat has confirmed plans for the sci-fi drama to air in the autumn next year.

The 50-year-old, writing in Doctor Who Magazine, dismissed the possibility of the show airing during the summer.

Moffat said: “Doctor Who in the summer? All that running down tunnels, with torches, and the sunlight streaming through your windows and bleaching out the screen? All those barbecues and children playing outside, while on the telly there are green monsters seething in their CGI-enhanced lairs? It’s just not right is it? Be honest. Continue reading
