You won’t even recognize Cloverfield director’s They Live reboot

Are you ready for a new version of "They Live"The director of Cloverfield has just signed on to make his next movie, and it’s based on the same material that inspired John Carpenter’s cult classic They Live.

Deadline reports that Matt Reeves will write and direct a movie based on the 1963 science fiction short story “Eight O’Clock in the Morning” by Ray Nelson. The story follows a man who wakes up one morning and realizes that there are aliens surrounding us and controlling every move we make. The story was used as the starting point for Carpenter’s 1988 film, in which an underground resistance used special glasses to be able to detect the aliens hidden under human disguises.

Apparently none of the business with the glasses will find its way into Reeves’ film, so the studio (Universal) is not looking to market this as a remake. The story will serve as the basis for Reeves’ own take on the concept.

Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel has found its General Zod

Neel Before ZodAfter a decent amount of speculation, the Sucker Punch director has settled on the villain for Warner Brothers’ Superman reboot: that great Kryptonian refugee, General Zod. As for the actor who’ll play him … well, that’s something of a surprise.

Snyder has chosen Michael Shannon, the Oscar-nominated character actor who’s been in Revolutionary Road, Boardwalk Empire and—I’m sure it pains him to be reminded—Jonah Hex, to play Zod, the charismatic Kryptonian played by Terence Stamp in Superman II.

Given the relatively high wattage of the balance of Man of Steel’s supporting cast—Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Pa and Ma Kent—Shannon’s casting feels a little out of left field, but interesting, to say the least.
