Screenwriter Greg Berlanti gave an update about the in-development Flash film that, depending on your tastes, is either terrific or terrifying news.

According to Berlanti—who’s been working with Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim on both Green Lantern and The Flash—using films like David Fincher’s Se7en and Jonathan Demme’s Silence of the Lambs as inspiration for Warners’ take on the Crimson Speedster isn’t really that far off base.

UN creates First Contact position to greet extraterrestrials

We are ready for ET!!

In news that’s part wacky and part surprising, the United Nation will be appointing, early next week, Earth’s official first contact (i.e. an ambassador) for aliens from outer space. (You couldn’t make this stuff up. Well, you could … but why bother?)

The UN has chosen a Malaysian astrophysicist by the name of Professor Datuk Dr. Mazlan Othman, who happens to be the head of its Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) in Vienna, “to act as Earth’s first contact for any aliens that may come visiting.”

Eliza Dushku’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer character Faith was so popular that she went on to appear not only in the Angel spinoff, but in comics and novels as well. So how come Dushku’s Slayer never ended up with a spinoff TV series of her own? Judging from a recent interview, it sounds as if Joss Whedon was at least partly to blame.
